Beyond Bionic is a science/educational series for CBBC pitting nature against technology. This was the first time I'd been tasked with grading an entire series. It was filmed in all sorts of locations with a plethora of cameras and lighting scenarios, but came out looking great. The second slide below a is shot of the grading in action, completed in Avid Symphony.
Video editing: adding punctuating to an actor’s performance, blending cinematography with music and finding pace and cohesion within a narrative to evoke a strong emotional response; it’s a very rewarding process and a big passion of mine.
My work as an editor generally falls into two camps; my main focus is pursuing a career as a long-form narrative editor, which is to work on scripted productions such as TV drama and film. I've worked in this field predominantly since going freelance, both as an offline editor and as a 1st AE, continually developing my own methodical, fast and instinctive approach to storytelling.
I'm also an experienced online editor, having been a staff onliner for many years prior, and one that I still keep my toes in. It's role that gets me involved with a broad variety of production genres, and can cover anything from colour grading to visual effects to file-encoding and delivery - essentially, I can handle the finishing stages of post.
I'm based near Cardiff, South Wales, though I'm happy whittling away long days at any edit suite across the UK. I've also got a great Avid setup at home which has seen plenty of investment recently with the shift towards remote operating.
